Pop Art is an art movement of the 1950's which challenges traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular culture such as advertising, news, etc. In pop art, material is sometimes visually removed from its known context, isolated, and/or combined with unrelated material. The concept of pop art refers not as much to the art itself as to the attitudes that led to it.
Pop Art still inspires many design concepts today, only instead of highlighting Campbell soup, we are emphasizing current objects, people, movies, food, and technology in today's mass produced culture. Things that are popular right here in this moment in time. When was the last time you may have seen something like the images below that's pop art inspired?
Assignment:
Create a color pencil drawing inspired by the pop art movement. You how you pop in your culture today. The topic or theme of your art should express current popular culture of today. Think PRESENT not past. Artworks cannot be imitated or copied. Your artwork should connect to you personally and express something about you or your personality.
Skill Practice Assignment:
Before you begin your final drawing, complete the Pop Art Blending and Shading Practice Worksheet. You can download the attachment below and print it out. You will need color pencils to finish this assignment. Once completed, turn into the teacher. You should complete this assignment before you being working on your drawing assignment.
