Task: Create a self portrait using the scratch art technique to showcase your personal characteristics and personality.
The purpose is to understand value, contrast, depth, and line. This will build your skills in drawing and attention to seeing details all around you.

What to Think About:
Show personality or facial expression
Use various lines to create depth, value, and contrast.
Create a light source on your face.
Create shadows to add drama and mystery.
Balance your portrait. Fill up the entire space of paper.
Show me who you are in the form of a drawing
No Cartoons or anime. You are aiming for realism
Find a picture on your social media accounts or take a photo/ “Selfie” with your ipad/phone etc. Must be only from the shoulders up.
Vary your lines depending on areas of the body
Leave something areas white
STEPS
1.Search for a photo of yourself online or take a photo of yourself with your phone or ipad.
2. If you don’t have either items in class, you can use my ipad to take a photo.
3. Email the photo to me: [email protected] (I will print it from my computer and you will then pick it up from the library.)
4. Finish the skills worksheet and Scholastic Art magazine vocabulary worksheet. (download below)
5. Begin tracing your photo and start the drawing process
